As a high school English teacher,High School English Teacher – How To Be An Effective One Articles you know that your efficiency relies on how you could keep the attention of your students. This can be achieved by implementing creative measures in your class. Below are some guides and reminder to use in effectively teaching English to secondary school students.

Accommodate Your Students' Needs

High school students are vulnerable and it is on this stage of their lives that they need a mentor and a model. As their teacher, it is your responsibility to know what their needs are and to set yourself as good example they can follow. Your subject will give them the reading and writing foundations they will need for the future. The skills you could help them build and develop will greatly help them in their future endeavors. Educate them with dynamic lessons and activities.

For Writing

Effective writing is what the students must learn to do. They should learn to form sentences with correct structures. You could coach them to use their own life experiences to come up with a writing piece. Pair them together to create an amazing work.

Encourage them to analyze, revise and question their own works.

For Literature And Reading

Reading materials in high school usually involves the classic works of Shakespeare, which can make them quite apprehensive and lacking in interest. With this, you need to come up with ways to encourage them to read even those very long novels. Ask them to relate their own lives with the story. Encourage them to inquire and ask questions. Role playing can also be an activity you could ask them to perform. As the educator, your own skills in communicating and presenting the lesson should be excellent. If your students sense or see you are having a hard time understanding the lesson, the more they will be discouraged from it.

Give Them What They Want

These days, pupils are harder to deal with. As the teacher, part of your job is to engage them to learn. You must learn how to dance with the tune they want, without compromising your authority over them. One way of drawing their attention is by organizing educational games. You could use games to bargain with them towards completion of their work. Tell them that if they can finish what you ask them to do, then you will allow them to play games. Moreover, make your drills, exercises and examples based on the trend of pop culture these youngsters are known to be fond of.

Be Unpredictable

When teaching to your class, do not implement predictable styles that students can get easily bored with. Add some spice to your lessons by always giving them something they are not expecting. You could ask them tricky questions and you could let them perform different activities that will wake them from a bored state.

Give Them Fun

Being humorous is a trait that will benefit you in many aspects of life including your teaching career. Eliminate the monotonous atmosphere in your class by delivering some funny jokes. You could also encourage them to present their own jokes once in a while. You could search for jokes online that are related or connected for your lesson that day.
