Monster Alaska King Salmon Can Still Be Found

If you head up to Alaska fishing for salmon, you could be in for a shock. You will find that in the Kenai and Togiak Rivers, the monster Alaska King Salmon is still alive and doing well. This is a fisherman’s dream fish and it is one of the reasons why people flock to this area to have their chance to snag one of these majestic beauties.

Something to note if you are going to search for the monster Alaskan salmon, two of the best areas to search will be around the Kodiak Island area.  They can also be found along the Togiak River as well. This is where people have been reported to find the 100 pound salmons.  Of course there is nothing like having the chance to enjoy their delicious meat.

While the larger salmon can be found in the waters, you do need to exercise patience and ensure that your equipment can handle the task of reeling one in. This will go beyond a simple rod and lure, so keep this in mind.

The best times to actually catch these fish are in the first few weeks of May. Historically, between the 15th and the 17th of the month have had the world record sized fish available in this area. While the Alaska king salmon can reach 100 pounds the majority of the fish that people catch are in the 40 – 50 pound range. It is generally a good idea to ensure that your equipment can handle the demands of fish in the 40 – 100 pound range to be successful.

Typically, the season for these fish will run May 15th – June 30th. There will be a break in there and the second wave will quickly back up in the first week of July and finish up on July 31st. This tends to be the entire season for these salmon in the area.

With a little effort on your part, you will be able to spot the elusive monster Alaska king salmon and take home a fish that will truly be noteworthy. Just understand that the fishing experience will take time, but part of the fun in finding the larger salmon is the hunt. This can of course be a great way to bond with friends or to head out on the waters for an impressive family fishing trip that can teach patience and generate some excitement for nature.
