Some people in corporate may behave exactly like beaver,Do corporate people follow beaver style Articles doing things primarily for the purpose of ‘own’ protection or security.  Beaver is a member of rodent family (rats and squirrels) that lives near water holes.  Beavers are vegetarian animal eats only different parts of plants.  They are good swimmers and visit the land for foraging.

The interesting thing about the beaver is the stagnant water bodies that they create, which is called as ‘beaver dam’.   They use tall trees, stones, mud past etc., to build dams near shallow streams.  They do further make tunnels in the water body to reach different parts.  When there is a threat from the predatory animals, beaver immediately jumps into the dam and sink at the bottom or escape through the tunnel.  Beaver cannot run fast in land as it has short legs and stout body.

To alert the members of the colony, they beat the flat tail on the surface of the water and make loud sound.  This sound would alert other members of the colony and they immediately move to a safer place.  Beavers need water to hide and escape but they never eat fish or other water creatures.

Due to the dam builds by the beavers, totally converts the forest land into marsh land and the beaver is known to cut many tall trees for making dams.  Beavers are known to totally change the entire ecosystem just for safe guarding them from the predators.

Many people in the corporate do exhibit ‘beaver-ism’.  Like beavers, these people totally and completely change the corporate ecosystem and culture.  From the outset, these people may be perceived as highly influential people who have made several drastic changes.  The question to be asked is whether such changes are progressive in nature and whether such changes are created only for the protection of the ‘self’ or for the total welfare of the organization.

Most of the influential people who make such changes in the corporate will do so only with an objective of how to ‘protect’ and ‘sustain’ their self centered interest.  The changes that are brought out by the influential leaders in the organization must be verified to understand whether they are for the ‘self’ or for the organization.

Beavers change the forest land into marsh land.  The change of forest habitat into marsh land is definitely a ‘big change’.  But such changes favour only the beaver and not the native species of the forest ecosystem.  This distinction is what the corporate must scrutinize and separate.

Beaver enthusiasm, beaver leadership style and beaver approach are quite common in most corporate.  Many corporate may wonder at such sudden and complete change of the corporate culture and corporate value system.  More often than not, the people who made such changes are venerated like ‘Demi-Gods’.   Remember, all these changes may be good for some select individuals but not for the corporate ‘In Toto’.  Be smart in knowing and dealing such corporate beavers.
