The priority of retaining health and immunity will be imperative in the coming year as well. So, why not keep resolutions that can help us enjoy 2021 throughout the year without any lapse.

Let's take a pledge to focus on health this year!

1. Boost Immunity

Ayurveda is the science of formulating immunity which is now of great importance. A herb named Amrita (also popularly known as Giloy) is documented in Ayurvedic literature for its magical properties such as Immunomodulatory, Hepatoprotective, Cardioprotective, Anti Inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Analgesic.

Scientific studies confirm the ayurvedic view of Amrita as a Rasayana (rejuvenator) and an immunity booster. It contains antipyretic actions and is useful for all types of fever, both acute and chronic. It minimizes fever symptoms like weakness, fatigue, and body ache.

Also, Amrita or Giloy is recognized to support longevity and enhance memory. This herb activates the immune system of the body and promotes vitality in a person. An Ayurvedic preparation named Amritarishta is a popular product with Amrita as a primary herb and Guduchi alongside.

Benefits of Amritarishta

  • Amrita has been preferred traditionally to treat ailments such as bronchitis and chronic cough. It soothes the mucous membrane of the respiratory system, making it very effective against asthma.
  • The anti-aging properties in Guduchi help in reducing wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines, and pimples resulting in flawless and glowing skin.
  • It helps to restore normal immune function and fight against several illnesses such as fever, jaundice, skin diseases, constipation, and tuberculosis.

Dosage:

  • Amritaristha - 2 tbsp once a day early morning.
  • Amrita Capsule - 1 capsule once a day with plain water.

2. Daily Detoxification

We know the nose is the pathway to our inner pharmacy. And medications that are inflicted via the nasal passages affect the mind, tridosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), and Majja Dhatu (bone marrow). So, Panchkarma (Bio Servicing) is important for the removal of cumulated impurities or toxic metabolites from body fluids.

Anu tail, used for one of the panchakarma procedures known as Nasya (nasal instillation of oil drops), is an ayurvedic herbal oil that has been known to cure diseases of the head, neck, shoulders, eyes, nose, ear, skin, throat, and hair. It has a soothing impact on the skin surface as well as works internally in cooling the brain and nerves. Anu tail improves the workings of all sensory organs.

Ayurveda recommends Nasya as a part of a healthy daily regimen, which every individual should follow.

How to Perform

  • Conduct Nasya on an empty stomach an hour before or after a bath or workout. Lie down with the head tilted back and put 3 drops of Anu Taila in each nostril.
  • Sniff deeply, then lie for a minute or so, to allow the oil to penetrate.
  • Make sure to spit all the cough accumulated in the mouth and after 15 minutes, gargle with warm water or you can take a shower according to your body type (Prakriti).

3. Improve Sexual Performance or Ayurvedic medicine for low sperm count

Dates to Improve your Sexual Performance

Dates have been adopted as an aphrodisiac and thus help to develop sexual stamina, libido, and performance. In India, dates are popularly known as khajoors, which is a food item. This dry fruit is sweet and is rich in magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, calcium, and phosphorus. Also, it is rich in proteins, which help in keeping your muscles strong and staying fit.

You can soak seedless dates in milk overnight and drink it the next morning.

Asparagus (Shatavari) to Improve your Sexual Performance

In traditional times, Asparagus was also popular as an aphrodisiac. This savory vegetable contains a stimulating blend of nutrients that help boost energy, clean the urinary tract and neutralize excess ammonia, which is said to be the cause of fatigue and sexual disinterest.

High in vitamin K and folate (vitamin B9), Asparagus is extremely balanced and is high in anti-inflammatory nutrients. It also provides antioxidants, vitamin C, beta-carotene (vitamin A), vitamin E, and the minerals zinc, manganese, and selenium.

Supplementing your diet with Asparagus helps to boost the daily sperm production rate in men when taken daily. Hence, it increases the likelihood of having a high sperm count. Asparagus may be eaten raw or cooked. When to enjoy raw, slice it thinly to make salads. If that is something infeasible, then you can go for Shatavari powder or tablets as a supplement.

Dosage:

  • Shatavari Powder - 1 tbsp twice a day with milk or warm water
  • Shatavari Tablets - 1 tablet twice a day with milk or warm water

4. Focus on Body Energy (Ojas)

Regular yoga practice brings you into awareness of the present moment and helps you in supporting Ojas and satisfying sex life.

To strengthen your legs & abs and support reproductive health & libido, focus on grounding poses like standing lunges, squats, seated twists, and prone backbends. Breathe deep into your lower abdomen. Try to link breathing with movement and allow your attention to be drawn inward to your heart and belly. Finish your practice with Alternate-Nostril Breath, also popularly known as Anulom Vilom or Nadi Shodhana in some books.

Tip: Practice alongside your partner or do partner yoga together to create deep bonds and trust.

Here are some Yoga Asanas that can help you with your sexual life:

  • Cat Pose (Marjariasana) and Cow Pose (Bitilasana)

These poses help you loosen up your spine and relax, which further aids in lowering your overall stress levels and makes it easier to get into the mood.

  • Bridge Pose (Setu Bandha Sarvangasana)

This pose assists in strengthening your pelvic floor which can reduce pain during sex.

  • Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)

A popular relaxation pose that stretches your glutes and the lower back. To try it in bed, start in a missionary position with your partner on top, and then extend your legs and wrap them around your partner’s torso.

  • One-Legged Pigeon (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)

You can perform any variation of the Pigeon post as they all are great for stretching and opening up your hips. Hip exercise is important as firm hips can lead to painful intercourse, and can also hold you from trying varied sexual positions.

  • Corpse Pose (Savasana)

This pose helps you relax and learn to let go of stress. You can implement it as a mini-meditation session after your yoga practice which can supercharge your relaxation.

5. Enhance Digestion

Healthy digestion is a fundamental aspect of overall health and wellness in Ayurveda. The complete digestion, absorption, and assimilation of food nutrients create the building blocks of the body, called Ahara Rasa, or ‘the essence of food’. And impaired digestion is what leads to the accumulation of ‘Ama’ or toxins, which ultimately causes various diseases.

Amla or Amalaki to Enhance the Digestion

Digestion begins with the experience of taste and Amla (Amalaki) contains five of the six tastes, lacking only the salty taste. Amalaki, commonly known as the Indian gooseberry, is the term used for the Ayurvedic medicinal use of the Amla tree's fruit. It is considered as a 'mother' because it performs the job of taking total care of the mind-body system and is known as the ultimate healer due to its immune restorative properties. Moreover, it is one of the most potent and nourishing rejuvenating herbs, which support antiaging and longevity.

As Amla sharpens the sense of taste, it is both stimulating and tonifying to the first stage of digestion. It also improves appetite and ignites the digestive fire (Agni), which are the core of healthy digestion. Even though its predominant taste is sour, Amla increases the digestive fire without aggravating Pitta. It also cleanses and protects the liver, which plays a critical role in transforming food into physiologically useful nourishment.

Dosage of Amla:

One can have raw amla in salads or

  • Amla Churna - 1/2 tbsp once a day empty stomach with warm water. Or as
  • Amla Murabba - 1 piece a day with milk during breakfast.

Triphala to Enhance the Digestion

From treating digestion to controlling the glucose level in the blood, there is almost no health issue that a pinch of Triphala Churna cannot cure. Triphala Churna is composed of a blend of three healthy fruits that have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries.

All three of the fruits are highly nutritious and beneficial for health, but when combined, they have a more significant impact on the healthy physiological functioning of the body. The fruits in Triphala include Amalaki (Amla), Haritaki (Harad), and Vibhitaka (Bahera).

Triphala has been used since ancient times as a natural treatment for digestive issues like constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Triphala Churna is an excellent product for improving someone's digestion as it can act as a digestive tonic and cleanse the digestive tract as well.

Dosage of Triphala:

  • Triphala Churna - 1/2 to 1 tbsp. at bedtime with warm water.
  • Triphala Tablet - 2 tablets at bedtime with warm water.
